While working with Cool Springs Sports Complex, we had the pleasure of completing one of our largest and most challenging projects. Cool Springs came to Spark Signs to design, create, and install a building-length window mural – almost 3,000 square feet – of athletes representing sports that are played in their facility.
Cool Springs Sports Complex is a multi-purpose sports facility, dedicated to developing and enhancing sports skills in an enjoyable atmosphere. Located in the south hills of Pittsburgh, the campus covers 58 acres and ranks as the largest multi-sport facility in Western Pennsylvania. The complex is a haven for intense competitors and families alike looking for active amusement.
The photos show the vibrant and interesting visual elements such as the new Cool Springs logo and huge visuals of athletes involved in their sporting element. The first key phase of the project was performing multiple site surveys with lifts to get the precise measurements of the windows, gutters, and mullions (spaces between the windows) so that we could design the imagery to those dimensions. We then moved to designing the enormously scaled graphic. This phase was very important, as we were challenged with placing the images strategically in and around the many mullions and gutters. Our design team spent many hours to ensure the proper placement of the new logo and images.
After the site survey and design steps were completed, we moved to selecting the proper materials for the window mural. Clear Econoview Perforated 60/40 Vinyl was chosen in part because it creates a vivid picture for those viewing from the outside and also allows sunlight to pass through the material to provide some natural sunlight. After successfully testing the material on the building, we printed the full-scale image.
Finally, with the project printed, we were able to install. Our first step was to thoroughly wash the windows so that the vinyl would adhere cleanly to the surface. Equipped with our HP and Avery-Certified wrap team and lift, we installed forty (40) 15-foot tall large vertical strips of vinyl, one by one, and took great care to trim the seams. The installation was completed within a week and Cool Springs had a beautifully branded building.
