We were honored when Wahlburgers, the popular Wahlberg family restaurant, came to Spark Signs & Graphics to outfit their new restaurant at the Block in Ross Township, the first franchise location in the Pittsburgh region. We constructed five signs and an awning – exterior channel letters, interior channel letters, a raceway channel letter mounted to the awning, and two blade signs that bear the Wahlburgers unique “W” logo.
Pictured is the completed and brightly illuminated channel letter signs that sit both inside the restaurant and on the exterior of the building. Also included are the two blade signs. To see all the photos from the installation, check out our Flickr page and click the Wahlburgers Project album.
Wahlburgers is a celebrity-fueled burger restaurant owned and managed by the Wahlberg brothers. The restaurant was founded by the eldest brother, Paul, who wanted to share some of his favorite recipes, so he partnered with his brothers, Mark and Donnie Wahlberg, to create a comfortable, friendly restaurant that would appeal to every generation. Since then, the franchise has slowly grown from the New England area and now has locations in over 15 states.
We collaborate closely with Wahlburgers’ corporate brand office, as well as the local architect, real estate developer, and builder, to ensure that all of the proper steps were taken, and brand standards being followed. Our team performed several site surveys at the Block location, including one with our installation partner. In addition, we worked with a structural engineer to ensure the exterior signs were appropriately fabricated and installed as part of following the local township permitting code.
As part of Wahlburgers’ specifications, “trimless” channel letters were constructed, and we worked closely with a regional sign partner to have them fabricated properly and to corporate specification.
Our team spent three days installing the various sign types. On the exterior of the building we worked from a lift to mount 3 ft. x 28ft. internally illuminated channel letters. Inside, two 1 ft. x 9 ft. illuminated channel signs were installed: one mounted flush on the wall above the main entrance and the other on a raceway mounted on the metal canopy. The two 36” circular blade signs were mounted on the corners of the bar. We were challenged inside when it came time to connect the sign wires to power because some of the walls had already been constructed, leaving the electrical power connection difficult to reach.
The local owner and builder of Wahlburgers were very pleased with our work. We were under a tight time frame to get up to speed on the project, fabricate the signs and install them prior to the opening. All along the way, we followed corporate brand guidelines and ensured that we were communicating regularly with each client stakeholder.
